Oswald Joyce

by GoldenElite0 (12/2/2007)

My Name: GoldenElite0
Char Name: Oswald Joyce
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Place of Birth: Atla
Faction: Citizen of Victory but voluntarily collaborates with the BCE.
Role: Radio presenter aboard HMS Lord Hood
Weapons of Choice: While a gun enthusiast, it rarely extended outside subscription of 'Gun monthly' on the solar-net pages.

Biography: Oswald's parents were workers on one of Atlas orbital hospital. They, as humans do, fell in love. His Mother chose to have Toni on one of the prettier moons rather than in the clustered space of the hospital. He was raised on this moon in a childhood paradise. His parents work might have granted him better education, but much of the colony was pro Xarkon with a sizeable portion of the local councilors influenced by Xarkonism. There were bylaws on wealth distribution that wouldn't allow a more expensive education, nevertheless his education wasn't really that bad for such an outlying colony. Oswald had good spoken and written word and was surprisingly ambitious.

The bustling trade of the colonies bought humans and aliens to him from many factions which got him caught up in political conversations. He became a journalist of a critical Xarkon unofficial Newspaper and tried to play himself up as a Victory council member. Xarkon underground propoganda officials never really considered him a cause for concern, but had his mill liquidated because they* could. Delusional and with an ambition for power, he later jumped the fence and tried to infiltrate Xarkon circles to become leader. But he was dismissed for his outlandish ideas on health reform and unemployment. This bandwagoning and his tabloid womanizing earned him the nickname of a sleaze.

The BSC arrival caused friction among the power houses of the galaxy. While conflict was unoffcial, raids broke out scatterted throughout the galaxy. But Oswald choice thought he could see a winner when he saw one. As news of the BSC liberation started to reach the inner circle, Oswald made every effort to contact them, eventually leaving his colony to travel with HMS Lord Hood as a galaxy spanning radio propaganda presenter. He worked tirelessly to turn many people to accept this new Coalition rule and was quoted as many as "Thin, pale, intense, he had not been speaking many minutes before we were electrified by this man... so terrifying in its dynamic force, so vituperative, so vitriolic."

The later destruction of The Hood saw capture of him and his station. Negotiations with Xarkon got him into the hands of Victory, who interned him for treason. After a few years of fruitless defence in court trials he was sentanced to death for treason, a very rare sentance carried out in Victorian space. His death has sparked a small flame in Victorian liberal groups for his unjustifiable execution, especially seeing as BSC ideologies are quite similar to the pillars of Victorian values. Otherwise this man achieved little fame but much notoriety in life despite his potential to do better.

Personality: Womanizing, band wagon jumping. Bit of a cheap skate,

*As in the two propaganda officers. Xarkon as a whole doesn't oppress unless threatened.

My character belongs to a fanfic faction, so I've included a forum post to maybe give you some background info. Hopefully you will find it interesting: http://forums.saber-scorpion.com/index.php?showtopic=22163
