Viper proudly describes himself as "Xarkon's greatest failure." At
birth, Harry was drafted into the Enomeg training program, and he proved
himself able to keep up with his peers in just about any training
exercise. It was his personality, however, that kept him from
succeeding. Viper never truly tried hard to be the best or even to
succeed in many of the tests, because he claims he simply never felt
motivated to do so. Furthermore, he enjoyed pranks and other antics that
had a greater immediate payoff as entertainment. After failing one too
many a test (usually on purpose) and hacking into the central computer
systems one too many times (usually leaving behind a message like "The
Viper was here"), Harry was ejected from the Enomeg program, though he
was still not allowed to leave the Xarkon military entirely. Viper then
came under the care of an instructor in the Xarkon military academy, who
adopted the boy and gave him his own surname, Dalton. He swore to
continue Harry's education and see which branch of the military he was
most suited for. Due to his extreme skill at technology and hacking, as
well as his high intelligence, Dalton soon had Viper signed up to join
Armed Forces Intelligence. Viper, however, was fascinated with the
powerful technology of walkers, and wanted to see some action as a
walker pilot. With the personal help of Lucas Mars, Viper got his wish,
and became a walker pilot with his own chosen codename of Viper. Today
he leads his walker squad with amazing skill, and is set to become known
as the best walker pilot in Xarkon history... if only he can keep his
priorities straight.
Viper is a rebel. When in the Enomeg program, he refused to follow
orders and continually acted up and caused trouble. He likes to wear his
hair long, usually pulled back from his face with a headband, and
refuses to follow military hygiene protocols. He also enjoys chasing
after women a lot more than hunting down the enemy. All of this,
however, is often excused because he is such a brilliant engineer and
excellent walker pilot. It has been observed by his instructors and
commanders that Viper performs best when there is some personal gain for
himself involved; some solid, tangible reward awaiting him at the end.
Because of this, there are many who disapprove of him and would like to
see him given a dishonorable discharge; unfortunately, he has done
nothing to deserve one yet, and he is too good a pilot to simply
discard. In person, Viper has a cocky, joking attitude that many in the
military find annoying, but most of his squad-mates greatly enjoy.
Indeed, Viper is closest with the members of his walker squad, most of
whom are rebels like him, and hates
to see anything happen to them. Other than this, he tends to show no
overall loyalty to his country or its values, thinking almost
exclusively about
himself.
